Shikimic acid is a cyclic organic acid in natural plants such as star anise and some gymnosperms. It is the main active
ingredient in star anise of Magnoliaceae.
Shikimic acid is a monomer compound with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, and can also be used as an
intermediate of antiviral and anticancer drugs.
